President Lai Ching-te said that he welcomed equal, dignified, healthy and
orderly exchanges with China, but expressed doubt on goodwill from Beijing.

Leaked Secret War Plans Target 160 Sites in Japan and South Korea. The Financial Times reported that according to
leaked secret Russian war planning the Russian military identified 160 priority
targets in Japan and South Korea in the event of a conflict with NATO expanding
into East Asia.

Attacks Central Kyiv with Drones.
Russia launched an aerial attack on the center of Kyiv in the first hours of
2025 that resulted in the killing of two people.

Gas Exports to Europe. Russia’s
energy giant Gazprom said that gas exports via Ukraine to Europe had been
halted as the transit deal has expired.

Witnesses 84% Surge in Communal Riots in 2024. The Centre for Study
of Society and Secularism (CSSS) in a report stated that communal riots in
India increased sharply in 2024 with 59 incidents reported which is an 84%
increase from 32 in the previous year.

Troops Arrest Four Kashmiri Youth in Pulwama.
The Indian troops claimed that the youths were over ground workers of a mujahideen
organisation and arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

Detains 72 Afghan Nationals in Balochistan. Pakistani security forces detained 72 Afghan nationals in
the Chagai area of Balochistan, on the basis of a lack of legal travel
documents.

8. Gaza Death Toll Surpasses 45,555. Gaza’s Health Ministry said that at least 45,555
Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the besieged
territory since 7 Oct 23.

9. Next Round
of Talks between Iran, European Countries to be Held. Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency reported
that the next round of talks between Iran and three European countries (Britain,
France and Germany) is set to be held on 13 Jan in Geneva.

10. Pak, India Exchange Lists of Nuclear
Installations. Pakistan and India exchanged lists of their
nuclear assets as part of a long-standing bilateral agreement designed to
prevent attacks on each other’s nuclear facilities.
11. Warring Tribes in Kurram Agree to Peace Deal. A significant milestone for peace in Kurram
was achieved with the conclusion of a Grand Jirga held in Kohat as both parties
involved in the negotiations signed a peace agreement.
12. RAW Linked to Assassinations in Pakistan. The Washington Post in a report stated that India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) spy agency orchestrated a covert assassination campaign thereby fueling a wave of targeted killings in Pakistan.
